Spina Bifida Clinic

Held bi-weekly by our team of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctors, this clinic is a one-stop-shop for any of our patients with spina bifida. Through appointments with Physical and Occupational Therapists, Orthopaedic Doctors, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Doctors,  and our own team of orthotists, we aim to take care of all of your child’s needs at one time under one roof.

Pectus Carinatum Treatment

Pectus carinatum is a chest deformity associated with abnormal growth of the ribs and sternum, which can sometimes result in an outward prominence of cartilage and bone. Affecting about one in every one-thousand teenagers, predominantly males, this condition has been successfully treated by our office through custom orthotic bracing. Once the pectus carinatum shows signs of progression and has been evaluated by a physician, our office can fabricate a custom pectus carinatum brace that is hand-made and specific to your child’s anatomy in order to maximize treatment success.

Plagiocephaly Treatment

Plagiocephaly, a word used to describe a diagonal asymmetry across the head shape, affects approximately one in two infants.  It is characterized by the development of a flat spot on the back or side of the head, and can be successfully treated orthotically. Atlantic Prosthetics and Orthotics utilizes Orthomerica’s STARband Cranial Remolding Orthosis, which is the first of its kind to receive FDA clearance and has been used to successfully treat plagiocephaly and other pediatric head shape deformities for nearly two decades. Our highly trained staff is very knowledgeable on plagiocephaly treatment and would be happy to answer any questions and walk you and your child through this treatment process.
